Ocean swimming adventure race Bicheno East Coast TAS

4th April 2010

A scary stretch of water to swim over in the 5km event, but paddlers and boats will support swimmers. 1km and 2km event is swum around a triangular course in Waubs Bay, close to the shore, away from moored boats - also supported with water safety crew. These are very good swims to do as a ‘first’ ocean swim, or as a fitness challenge with a group. Along the way there are 3 places with items stashed, that need to be identified from the ‘10 things what‘s there?’ chart. This is an ocean swimming event with a difference:

  • Supported Surf Life Saving Tasmania rescue services and members
  • Participation and challenge focus.
  • Random gifts for being in it (eg café vouchers, swim gear, Standup paddle board lessons, entry refund).
  • Marine and coast education: what are we swimming in and over?
  • Adventure swimming like orienteering navigating to 3 cache points.
  • Identify items at the cache points
    • Food van and stall
    • Beach games and sandcastles
    • Beach swimming instructions for kids & their parents from 10 -10.45am
    • Raffle of a wetsuit and a crayfish
    • Optional social group body surfing session on Easter Monday 9am

$5 of each entry goes to: Bicheno Nippers Surf Life Saving Club & Devil Island Project (building large free range enclosures ‘FRE’ for healthy Tasmanian Devils an endangered species.) www.devilislandproject.com
