Surf Education & Activities for High School Students

Surf Life Saving Tasmania is offering a number of fun and interactive educational opportunities for High Schools Students leading in to summer.

With a bumper summer predicted, SLST can help you provide your students with a practical understanding of coastal environments and offer guidance on how to have a safe and fun experience at the beach.

SLST Surf Education Programs for Students –

Program One: Understanding Coastal Environments – this is a popular 100 min interactive classroom visit from a surf lifesaver, who walks through developing an understanding of beach and surf characteristics, applying basic principles of risk management and an introduction to CPR.

$210 per class (up to 30 students)

Program Two: Coastal Experience Session – for those students (schools) wishing to get wet, Surf Life Saving Tasmania can provide a safe and engaging 180 minute mix of surf theory and surf activity at a local beach for your class.

$300 per class (up to 30 students)

Program Three: Surf Survival Certificate – provides a pathway to joining a Surf Life Saving Club and becoming a surf lifesaver. All participants are introduced to local surf life saving clubs and invited to join in on a patrol day over summer.

The course consists of one day in the classroom and a day based at a local surf life saving club. Participants learn about coastal environments and how this effects enjoyment and safety, basic first aid, CPR, and several aquatic rescue techniques.

$600 per class (up to 10 students)

Other school education initiatives

School education programs provide a popular and important introduction to the surf environment for many school children. SLSA currently provides education packages through its Surf Survival, Surf Awareness, Surf Smart and Surf Safety programs.

These programs are specially designed to give students skills that will develop their understanding of the surf environment and give them basic survival and rescue skills.
